Also called reconciliation or penance, confession is the sacrament by which a soul that is dead through sin is brought to new life. Whether it's been a few days or decades, confession is always available for baptized Catholics.
How to go to Confession:
1. Examine your conscience. Think about everything you have done wrong since your last worthy reception. You must confess every mortal sin, but it is also good to confession venial ones as well. To assist in this examination, you may reference the following:
2. Have true sorrow for your sins. This is necessary for the sacrament. This does not necessarily have to express itself as an emotion, but the penitent should be sorry for what they have done.
3. Confess your sins to a priest. You must say all mortal sins and how many times they were committed. If you cannot remember how many times, make a general guess. It is a good practice to confess any venials sins as well.
